Seven Linux distros fight over one old ThinkPad
Bottom line:
A nice, easy-to-install, easy-to-configure,
and easy-to-use distro, particularly for
someone who's used to SUSE or Fedora Core,
but wants something smaller and quicker.
Given its performance vs. that of Mandriva,
I'd have to say it's "a better Mandriva than
Mandriva." I didn't spend the time to locate
alternative desktop background images to the
"lovely" default desktop scenery, but I'm
sure they're readily available. My
compliments to the PCLinuxOS team!

PCLinuxOS: A Windows User's Delight
As a former Windows user, I know that it
can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the
volume of available distributions. Often, to
help decipher the lingo and choose a capable
distribution, those new to the community
seek guidance from existing users.
Sometimes, this can lead to a really
positive result, as another Windows user
joins the Linux community.

PCLinuxOS Beautification Project
Gryphen is heading up a new project for
PCLinuxOS. This is an effort by our
community to bring an overall 'complete'
feel to the default desktop. Since the
default desktop is KDE, that's where most of
the initial efforts will be concentrated.
Eventually we'll also work on the Gnome and
Fluxbox desktops as well as work on artwork
for the MythEdition and EduPCLOS editions.
Here is an initial list of the areas that
will need work:
Official Logo
Color scheme, Windeco, Style, Font, Icons,
Wallpaper, KDM, Login Screen, Splash Screen,
Superkaramba, Boot splash, Lilo, Grub,
Fluxbox, Gnome.
Please feel free to make comments,
suggestions, and constructive criticisms.

All ibiblio servers are now racked
Our public file host ibiblio.org servers
are now racked and either up or in the
process of post-move repair. This was been a
huge undertaking. They are still
reassembling ibiblio one piece at a time,
but are making steady progress. Additional
intermittent downtime can be expected over
the next few days.
